Experiencing nomad life

Nation: Djibouti
National Day:

How do nomads live? How do they travel? What do they eat? Where do they sleep? Answers to all these questions are provided by the East African country, Djibouti, in the Africa Hall. Visitors can explore a Toukoul, a reproduction of a real nomad hut. Inside they will find everything which nomads need for their daily life. As a background, the typical volcanic landscapes around the Abhé and Assal lakes - areas, which the nomads wander through - are depicted. Salt lakes and lava deserts explain why Djibouti literally means a "moon landscape on the earth's crust" or is called "the end of the world".

In addition to this, Djibouti presents projects dedicated to protecting nature, tourist attractions and projects for modern infrastructures, such as the international port.

As a souvenir of the exhibition visitors can buy craft objects at a bazaar or they can have their hands and feet painted with henna by nomads.
