The power of the people

Nation: Philippines
National Day: 25.08.00

The pavilion is a vault created by bamboo rods and Manila hemp. To portray their country the Philippines have chosen natural materials for their pavilion, so that it can be rebuilt when the EXPO is over.

"The Power of the People" is the motto chosen by this island state. The Philippine exhibition focuses on the abilities and the creativity of its population. In the pavilion's entrance area life-sized pictures of Filipinos greet the visitor. "Living and Working", "Communication and Information" and "Education and Politics" are the main topics of this exhibition.

In a "multimedia room" the visitor embarks on a journey through Philippine history. In an adjoining area designers and artists display a selection of their work. And three selected Philippine EXPO-projects are on display, in which the visitors learn about the protection of sea-horses, the production of new strains of rice and a solar telephone network. Musicians, dancers, actors and film-makers from the Philippines all make contributions to the pavilion's cultural programme.
