View into the rock temple

Nation: Sri Lanka
National Day: 16.08.00

Traditional wood carvings will decorate the roof of the pavilion, the tip of which is crowned by a pinnacle, a small tower. This form is typical for roofs in Sri Lanka. The exterior of the ten-metre-high building is decorated with lotus blossoms.

At the pavilion entrance, visitors are greeted by a six-metre-high statue of Buddha. Most inhabitants of the island state in the Indian Ocean are Buddhists and their religion influences the exposition. In the centre of the building, visitors can admire the replica of a magnificent Buddhist rock temple. The interior room of the pavilion is generously decorated; paintings from the "Temple of the Tooth" in Kandy adorn the ceiling.
