Stories of flight under bright yellow steel construction

Nation: Lithuania
National Day: 06.07.00

The Republic of Lithuania is celebrating a premiere at EXPO2000: for the first time, the southernmost and at the same time largest Baltic state is participating in a world exposition with its own pavilion. The central topic is "The Flight." This is what the light, bright yellow steel construction of the pavilion portrays: it has the shape of a wing.

Flying is the best way to explain the desires and ideals of Lithuanians. In the 17th century, a Lithuanian had an idea for a rocket which would ignite in several stages. And in the 19th century, Lithuanians invented a steam-driven aeroplane. In 1933 two Lithuanian pilots flew over the Atlantic without stopping. At the pavilion, there are films to introduce visitors to the past, present and future of the country. Lithuanian beer and rye toast are also offered.

Idea for children and teenagers: A count-down, a launch into the white nothing and there you go: a flight over Lithuania in a flight simulator, finished by the opening of the pilot's safety belts. In the same cinema at 12 o'clock a film for children with the title "A candle for St. Franziskus" is shown. Numerous touch screens on consoles as bright yellow as the pavilion itself invite teenagers to play quiz-games. For example, the youngsters are asked to put a historical rocket together correctly in the quiz "Flying".
