Mali
There were many sources here years ago
A well is the focus point of the Mali exhibition in the Sahel countries' group presentation. You turn the handle and pull up eight display signs. You hear the typical sounds of the well surroundings. The motto is 'water and development' The Malians present four aspects of water on 200 square metres. Display boards and exhibits from the national museum indicate the locations of water sources 8000 years ago, where people settled and how much water there was in the Niger inner delta. In contrast, there is also information about the water shortages of the 70s, the silting of the rivers and the reduction of the water table. You see pictures of Dogon country and specific water use techniques in a typical Malian mud house. The history of the town of Timbuktu is the subject in the next house as well as life in the Gourma, the Niger inner arch. The path leads on to a Tuareg tent. Here a musician plays the Tuareg violin.
