Journey through time along the Mekong
Along the Mekong River visitors to the Laotian pavilion wander through the past, present and future of the Southeast Asian country.

They are welcomed by a wat, a traditional temple building. Wooden pillars with lavish carvings, a pagoda roof, and a wooden elephant remind them of the role of the forest and of the old name of the country: Lane Xang - land of the million elephants. Inside, a worldwide project on the preservation of old manuscripts demonstrates the restoration and scientific evaluation of former religious and literary writings.

The river accompanies visitors to a second building, which stands for the present and future. With reference to further worldwide projects it is demonstrated here how important it is for this country to apply sustainable methods of production in agriculture and forest industries. A market square invites visitors to purchase Laotian artisan items at the end of the tour.
