Thailand
Variety is the food of the world
Thailand, the 'land of the free', has always been the rice dish of Asia. Biotechnology is to be used to produce the natural range of varieties for the latest and at the same time environmentally friendly production of food. Thailand's regional variety and fertile coasts are thus of benefit. Environmental projects, for example the Doi Tung development project, are under the patronage of the Royal Family.

Friendly Thailand is trying to design its flourishing tourist industry with an ecological emphasis. Alongside agriculture, forestry and water supply and distribution, the Thai culture, developed on and around water, is also afforded particular attention.

Recommendation for children and teenagers: In a show case in front of the scenery of a miniature Thai village a film is projected which shows young visitors the commitment of the king's late mother to the Doi Tung project in the North of Thailand. Farmers had continuously been destroying forest land with the slash and burn method to expand the arable land for the cultivation of poppy for drugs. The project helped to improve the living conditions of the impoverished rural population, where young girls are frequently forced into prostitution in the cities of southern Thailand.
