A roar followed by silence - the spell is cast
A roaring waterfall, plunging down from a height of 15 metres, casts a spell on visitors to the Norwegian Pavilion. It is a reproduction of the Steinsdalsfossen Waterfall in the Hardanger Fjord.

After visitors pass the raging masses of water they must first get accustomed to the absolute silence in the "Room of Silence". The Norwegian artist Marianne Heske has melted abstract "impressions of nature" into the close to 700 aluminum sheets which cover the floors, walls and ceiling of the high cubical room. Now and again a small noise interrupts the silence, perhaps a pebble falling from a rock or perhaps an animal which has moved.

The waterfall represents the transformation of untamed hydroelectric power into energy. In Norway, almost all energy needs are met by hydroelectric power. The "Energy" theme and also those of "Environment" and "Technology" are given special emphasis in this pavilion.
