Eritrea
Glass house and Mgogo ovens
A glass house with solar panels on the roof and a village square with tree, fountain and a traditional wooden house - it's these contrasts that make up the charm of the Eritrean pavilion.

The glass energy centre deals with alternative energies and their practical use in everyday life. For example, a solar sterilising unit allows for hygiene to be practised even in the hospital wards of remote villages. A Mogogo oven stands in the kitchen of the village house. By using this simple technology, the traditional stove has been developed into a fuel-saving unit. A picture story tells what this kind of adapted technology means to the day-to-day work of the village women.

Projects for afforestation and agricultural development of the country are presented in a series of large-scale photographs. The pictures give an impression of the wide-open spaces of the Eritrean countryside, and also of the extent of the task facing Eritrea today.
