Botswana
Wildlife protection and economic growth

The Kalahari Desert with its wildlife population of lions, zebras, giraffes, antelopes and elephants and the Okavango Basin wetlands with their hippopotami, crocodiles and countless waterfowl are Botswana's attractions.  In the joint presentation of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) a river cruise through the Okavango delta is simulated.

Botswana's government demonstrates how harmony can be achieved between the preservation of the original animal world and economic development. It is hoped that the development of an ecologically sound tourism will ensure the economic acceptability of the conservation of this unique natural environment. Following the great suffering caused to the animal population over the past twenty years by drought and by human hand national parks and game reserves now account for 37 per cent of the country's total area.
